This is our main entrance to the house - before I gave it a little ZB (zero budget) makeover:

I only took one pic, quite honestly I don't think I could bare to take any more of the dreary dumping ground. Here are the after pics:
I had to source things from around the house and garden for this little project and I have to say, although it is not the ideal set-up, it is an improvement. I have borrowed the long gate-leg table from the dining room, which I was a bit sad to lose, but it was the only option available for now. The stool was just lurking around the house and the small round table is borrowed from my son's bedroom. I particularly like the table cloth on the small table, as it is an old linen curtain of my grandmother's.

The gate-leg table does not offer me the storage I was hoping for, but there is at least some display space and the idea behind the chair and stool are to provide drop zones that I can use to free my hands for a few minutes while I'm getting school bags and groceries in the door. The basket on the floor is for kids shoes, and I can store shoes under the tables if needed and I have thinned down the coat rack, which will build up again - but I will thin it out again when that happens.

The front door is in a state of incompletion in an attempt of whitewashing and the space is still a bit on the dark side, but only lighter paintwork, a different door which has glass panels and/or a sky light will make the space as light and bright as I would like it. For now it's as good as I can make it, over time hopefully I can improve it even more.
